While I am choosing to do two seperate reflections for my reflection, because of my collaboration group, it is still important to recognize the impact the growth mindset had on my understanding of the Innovation process. Going into the course there was a sense of confusion over the scope of the program and in general a sense of not wanting to challenge myself. After beginning the Growth Mindset Plan from 5302, it became clear I needed to change my way thinking and not back down from what 5305 was trying to tell me.
The depth of information and new ideas I gained in this course has already begun to change my process as an elementary school teacher. I am looking at how we implement technology into the classroom and thinking more critically on its use. I have begun to give students more choice and finding way to make their learning more impactful in their lives. As I gear up to begin Project Based Learning, the work here in this course and 5302 has helped me reframe my mind for the job.
What worked well was getting all the pieces together. I think I managed okay in my understanding of what was asked of me, as shown by the scores and the feedback given to me by the rater and my collaboration group, Rainisha and Terri. The advice and feedback given to me helped to clear up any confusion I had over what disruptive innovation could look like and help me plan out what I needed to do to be part of the solution.
Similar to my work in 5302, I struggled with time management and the discussion posts. It wasn't until much later when I got my head on straight and at that point many of my peers had already addressed the discussion. Providing a disservice to myself but also not collaborating with the larger learning community. While life did get a bit in my way (new subject, gaining 10 students, increase in responsibilities at work), I still struggled to maintain a balance in course work and professional work. For this my work was affected and not as much time was devoted to research or fleshing out the ideas. In this time some revisions have been made but more will be needed moving forward as the nature of my project develops.
Something that was different in this course then 5302 is my collaboration group. I partnered with Rainisha and Terri to discuss projects like the implementation outline and each others eportfolios. Rainisha helped to form the group and we each took active rolls in asking for feedback and making sure to get work in before deadlines. The group was very supportive and I enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with them.
I believe I earned my score because all work was turned in, the collaboration group was formed and feedback provided. However, the discussion posts were not done in a timely manner and the opportunity to contribute was lost.
